The American Soldier By Jean Higbee Last night I had a good nights sleep. I awoke to fresh brewed coffee. I went outside so that I could enjoy the stillness of my morning. I leaned back in my chair, sipped my coffee and listened to the birds. As the morning breeze picked up, I could hear the sound of freedom. The lights that shine on her throughout the night have gone out, she stands proud in the morning dawn. She, is the American Flag displayed in my front yard. As she waves softly in the morning
breeze she seems to whisper. Half way
around the world, their night has just begun. They
have not slept, and have had no time to enjoy a hot cup of coffee. There are no comfortable chairs for them to sit in
and they hear no birds. But.. they can hear
and see freedom. Its all around them. You see they are my Sons and Daughters on the
battle field, in the sky and on the ocean. They
are fighting for you, me, the people of The lights will shine on her tonight. I will go to sleep and the dawn will be with our Soldiers. They have not slept or enjoyed a cup of coffee, they have no comfortable chair and they hear no birds. But they can see and hear freedom. May God watch over Freedom this day.
